She was born and raised in Oklahoma, though she had deep family roots and history in Texas. While growing up in Oklahoma her father served as Oklahoma State Senator and State Representative in addition to being a local businessman. After earning a bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1961, she began a long and impressive career as a computer programmer and software engineer Raytheon, working on highly classified programs. Some of her notable programing projects includes the NASA Apollo missions and being on the initial team that worked the first software system at the Joint Defense Space Research Facility in Alice Springs, Australia. She and her husband, a fellow software engineer met at Raytheon. They lived in their Highland Park, Texas home for over 30 years. She lived a very active life involving supper clubs, tap dancing teams, ranching on her family's ranch in Texas, her Texas ancestral family history and her good friendships.
